So today is my birthday. What better way to celebrate than to not be at work?
With the influx of notifications of birthday messages appearing on my feed, I look back at memories of past celebrations. From karaoke sessions in the city, to beach BBQs and watermelon bashing, to house parties (because it was to damn hot or rainy to spend it outdoors). From jumping out of a plane when we turned a quarter life, to hot ballooning in the Hunter Valley four years ago and getting engaged. There have been some very fond memories over the years.
This year is no milestone and I suppose from here on in it will only come every decade. The realisation kind of sounds a bit saddening now that I think about it. They do say that the years just get faster and faster as you get older though, and it certainly seems the case.
With no significant milestone I wanted to keep it low key this year. So here I lay on my sun lounge with the company of my fur babies, Spotify’s ‘Chill AF’ playing through my headphones, as I reflect and enjoy the cooler reprieve from the blistering Sydney summer heatwave we have been experiencing.
Let me enjoy this peace.
A few extra fine lines from too many smiles, a few more grey hairs for the extra wisdom. Here’s to another revolution around the sun.
